Take care of what Claremont already owns—before small problems become expensive failures. 

Create a public, proactive maintenance plan 

I will work with City staff to develop comprehensive, proactive, and publicly available plans for parks and park equipment, sidewalks, streets, drainage, and City facilities. My goal is straightforward: parks that welcome residents of all ages, sidewalks people can safely use, and streets free of preventable potholes. 

Make priorities, funding, and progress visible 

Maintenance should not be reactive or hidden from the public. The City already identifies damaged-pavement repair and preservation, alley resurfacing, citywide street resurfacing, storm-drain work, accessibility improvements, and traffic-signal upgrades among its capital needs. I will advocate for condition assessments, safety-based priorities, timelines, funding sources, and regular progress reports that residents can understand. Proactive pavement and drainage maintenance—especially before and after major storms—protects taxpayer dollars by preventing minor repairs from becoming costly capital projects. 

Deliver the projects already on the City’s agenda 

The City’s work plan includes Indian Hill Boulevard improvements south of Arrow Highway, a San Jose Avenue accessibility project, Claremont Boulevard accessibility improvements, an Arrow Highway multimodal regional corridor project, Arrow Highway utility-undergrounding coordination, Colby Circle storm-drain work, and a Sports Park Improvement Plan that includes Guthrie Skate Park and pump-track feasibility. I will advocate for responsible scheduling, early neighborhood input, and public reporting until each project is completed or its status is clearly explained. 

Improve Claremont’s gateways 

I will press Caltrans to properly maintain the I-10 and I-210 on- and off-ramps that serve Claremont. These are residents’ and visitors’ first and last impressions of our city. Claremont is already engaged in regional transportation planning, including review of I-10 Express Lanes and coordination on regional transit projects. The City should document maintenance concerns, elevate unresolved needs through the appropriate state channels, coordinate with regional partners, and tell residents clearly what is within local control and what requires Caltrans action.
